LUKE 13:1-5
1 Now there were some present at that time who told
Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had
mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you
think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all
the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I
tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all
perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in
Siloam fell on them - do you think they were more
guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell
you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
1. What is GOD’S ROLE in Disasters?
a] God is not the CAUSE of disasters.
ROMANS 5:12 NLT
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought
death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.ROMANS 8:20-22 NLT
20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But
with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it
will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and
decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the
pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
b] God is in CONTROL of disasters.
JOB 37:3, 6; 9-13
3 He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the
ends of the earth.
6 “He directs the snow to fall on the earth and tells the rain to pour down.9 The stormy wind comes from its chamber, and the driving winds bring
the cold. 10 God’s breath sends the ice, freezing wide expanses of water.
11 He loads the clouds with moisture, and they flash with his lightning.
12 The clouds churn about at his direction. They do whatever he
commands throughout the earth. 13 He makes these things happen either
to punish people or to show his unfailing love.PSALM 147:8
8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain
and makes grass grow on the hills.JEREMIAH 10:12-13
12 But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by
his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
13 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes
clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the
rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.PSALM 46:1-3; 6-10
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the
mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and
foam and the mountains quake with their surging.6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth
melts. 7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our
fortress. 8 Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he
has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the
earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields
with fire. 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be
exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
