The Choice in the Crisis.
RUTH 1:1-2
1 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. So a
man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two sons, went
to live for a while in the country of Moab. 2 The man’s name was
Elimelech, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of his two sons
were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem, Judah.
And they went to Moab and lived there.2 SAMUEL 6:1-2
1 David again brought together all the able young men of Israel-thirty
thousand. 2 He and all his men went to Baalah in Judah to bring up from
there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the
LORD Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark.2 SAMUEL 6:3-7
3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of
Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were
guiding the new cart 4 with the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in
front of it. 5 David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might
before the LORD, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and
cymbals. 6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached
out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The
LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act;
therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.
The Consequence of the Choice.
RUTH 1:3
3 Now Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her two
sons.
RUTH 1:4-5
4 They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth.
After they had lived there about ten years, 5 both Mahlon and Kilion also
died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.RUTH 1:20-21
20 “Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the
Almighty has made my life very bitter. 21 I went away full, but the LORD
has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The LORD has
afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.”
