JAMES 5:10-11
10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of
suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As
you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have
heard of Job’s patience [KJV] and have seen what the Lord finally
brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
THE PATIENCE OF JOB
1. IT’S A TESTED PATIENCE.
a) Patience is tested by trying and difficult people.
1 PETER 2:18-20 NLT
18 You who are slaves [in our context ‘employees’ or anyone working for
someone or under the authority of someone] must accept the authority of
your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you -not only if they are
kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. 19 For God is pleased with
you when you do what you know is right and patiently endure unfair
treatment. 20 Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are
beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it
patiently, God is pleased with you.
b) Patience is tested by trying and difficult circumstances.
JOB 7:3-6
3 So I have been allotted months of futility, and nights of misery have
been assigned to me. 4 When I lie down I think, ‘How long before I get
up?’ The night drags on, and I toss and turn until dawn. 5 My body is
clothed with worms and scabs, my skin is broken and festering. 6 “My days
are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and they come to an end without hope.
