MATTHEW 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus
had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but
some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I
have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end
of the age.”
1. THE PURPOSE OF THE MISSION.
a) Because there is no salvation for those who don’t know Jesus Christ.
ACTS 4:12
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other
name under heaven given to mankind by which we must
be saved.”JOHN 3:36
36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but
whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s
wrath remains on them.ROMANS 2:5-8 NLT
5 But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are
storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming,
when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will judge
everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to
those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and
immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on
those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead
live lives of wickedness.2 THESSALONIANS 1:8-10
8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel
of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with everlasting destruction
and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his
might 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be
marveled at among all those who have believed.
b) Because salvation has been made available to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ.
ROMANS 10:9-13
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your
heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is
with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your
mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says,
“Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is
no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and
richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the
name of the Lord will be saved.”
c) Because everyone must know that there is salvation in Jesus Christ.
ROMANS 10:14-15
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And
how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And
how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how
can anyone preach unless they are sent?
